MINISTER for Fair Trading Anthony Roberts was in Port Macquarie yesterday to promote scam awareness and consumer rights during NSW Fair Trading’s three-day My Place program.
Mr Roberts and Member for Port Macquaried Leslie Williams visited St Columba Anglican School where they opened a Revved Up seminar for senior students.
Fair Trading’s Revved Up program educates young people on the rights and responsibilities involved in purchasing their first car and the pitfalls to avoid.
Mr Roberts said Fair Trading received thousands of complaints each year from people buying cars.
“Buying your first car can be a defining moment on your journey into adulthood, but as first-time car buyers you can often be seen as a prime target for unscrupulous traders,” he said.
“The Revved Up program informs young people about the pros and cons of buying a car and how to avoid unpleasant surprises.”
The Minister also took a walk down Horton Street to discuss trader rights and responsibilities with local retailers.
During the Port Macquarie My Place program, Fair Trading conducted compliance checks on motor vehicle dealers and repairers, real estate agents, pawnbrokers and secondhand dealers and travel agents.
