Old-school job seeking

A FIFTH jobs expo will be held in Port Macquarie next week as part of a broad strategy to deliver lower jobless rates and greater employment opportunities in the region.
Independent Lyne MP Rob Oakeshott said the latest Jobs and Skills Expo would be held at the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium on Friday, 21 June from 10am to 3pm.
“These expos are an important conduit between job seekers and employers, and although they have a proven track record of getting people into actual work, not every community can access the program so I’m delighted our electorate is about to host our fifth expo,” Mr Oakeshott said.
“About 1000 job seekers have been placed into actual jobs as a direct result of our expos – two of which were in Port Macquarie and two in Taree.
“It’s old-school job seeking, where those looking for work speak directly to an employer.
“Job seekers also can talk to employment service providers and training organisations, so it’s a great chance to connect to a real job or a real training opportunity.
“Full-time, part-time, casual, blue-collar jobs, white-collar jobs … the Port Macquarie expo will have vacancies for tradespeople and professionals, offer apprenticeships and traineeships as well as skills training opportunities for people to up-skill as a pathway to employment.”
Mr Oakeshott said he was encouraging local businesses interested in exhibiting or advertising job vacancies at the Port Macquarie expo to phone 13 11 58 or visit the website at www.humanservices.gov.au/expos
