CAPTION: Judith Peat and Edna Bradburn were in Year 6 together at school, but have just reunited after 70 years.
CLASSMATES more than 70 years ago, Judith Peat and Edna Bradburn have reunited and are now living in the same retirement village.
Mrs Peat, 80, was living in another retirement village north of Port Macquarie when she met and reunited with her friend from many years ago.
At the time, they were both interested in moving to different retirement villages.
“I wanted a change and decided to give Edna a call and see if she might be interested in moving to Parklands,” Mrs Peat said.
“I’d already been interested in the village and we came to have a look together and it was the best choice we’ve made to move.
“It’s been amazing that we’ve reconnected after 70 years. Since living at Parklands, Edna and I often go to plays and theatre shows at The Glasshouse. We go out for meals and love to get out and about.”
Mrs Bradburn said her new friendship was incredible and, after 70 years, the pair had lots to catch up on.
“I’d only lived in Nambucca Heads for less than a year when I met Judy and we pretty much picked up where we left off,” she said.
“She saw my name and recognised that we actually were in Year 6 together back in Sydney.
“She moved into Parklands first and I followed soon after. I would say that it was after I had reconnected with my friend that it was a kind of turning point that made me want to come to the village.
“Judy and I lost touch after primary school as we both went to different high schools. We now get to see each other every couple of days and it’s incredible to think that we’re still just as good friends now as we were 70 years ago.”
