A car has had to be retrieved after soaring off a cliff at Lighthouse Beach.
At approximately 6.30am on Monday, a 69-year-old male from
the Northern Territory parked a Silver Nissan Murano and, on returning from viewing the Port Lighthouse, found his car had crashed to the base of the cliff.
The man is believed to have borrowed the car from his daughter, who lives in Newcastle.
The male had left the car in “drive” to see the scenic view before walking around the Lighthouse.
When he came back to where he had left the car, it was missing.
He was mortified to find it at
the bottom of the cliff and called police.
Police contacted a tow truck operator and Mid Coast Cranes to retrieve the vehicle.
Mid Coast Cranes removed the car at 1.30pm.
It is believed the car rolled straight down the cliff where there are minimal wooden barriers in place and no metal chains were hanging between the polls “as they had been in the past”.
