The communications room is the nerve centre of the Rural Fire Service and, come September 24, you can come in and take a look around.
The annual Rural Fire Service Open Day will see many brigades across the State throw open their station doors to the public.
And locally it is no different, with the Hastings Communications Brigade looking forward to welcoming you into their high tech control room.
From this room, local incidents ranging from small grass fires to large bush fires, structure fires and motor vehicle accidents, are controlled, by providing a vital link between the frontline firefighters and the operations staff.
If you have ever given a thought to volunteering in any way, including administration or communications, it will be a perfect opportunity for you to talk to the communications volunteers and find out what it’s all about.
You will have the chance to see how the other side operates, seeing the communications room in action.
Everything from radio messages to trucks, fire mapping, paging and resource distribution can all be explained and demonstrated.
Head to 108 Cameron St, Wauchope from 10am until 4pm, along with the Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade next door, which will also give you the chance to check out their fire fighting appliances.
