NATIONALS candidate for Lyne David Gillepsie has taken aim at the Federal Government’s decision to cut the carbon tax compensation.
Mr Gillespie said Mid North Coast families would suffer as a result.
“Julia Gillard broke her promise that there would be no carbon tax under a government that she led. Last week Minister Combet broke his promise that there would be no change to household carbon tax compensation,” Mr Gillespie said.
“To add insult to injury for families in the Lyne electorate, the government has broken yet another promise by scrapping its plans to boost Family Tax Benefit Part A.”
“This family benefit would have provided $300 to eligible families with one child and $600 to families with two children or more. There are more than 11,000 recipients of Family Tax Benefit Part A who have been let down again by the Gillard Government.”
Tribute to nurses
PORT Macquarie MP Leslie Williams has paid tribute to the dedicated and committed nurses in the region’s hospitals.
On the eve of International Women’s Day, which was on Sunday, Mrs Williams told State Parliament that Port Macquarie had some of the best nurses in NSW.
“During my relatively short career as a nurse, no matter who I worked with, I always felt confident that they would put patient care first,” she said..
“Recently I joined a number of my former colleagues at a barbecue at the hospital during their lunchbreak. I appreciate their invitation and thank them for it.
“It was another opportunity for me not only to catch up with friends, but also to continue to hear first-hand about what is happening in the nursing workforce. The people in the Port Macquarie community and I are excited that it will be only another 12 months before the opening of the expanded Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
“As a consequence of that expansion, many more nurses will be needed in that facility. I look forward to welcoming them to the Port Macquarie workforce and to our local health district.”
