FLASHING lights will be installed at Port Macquarie High School later this month to increase school zone pedestrian safety in Owen Street.
It’s part of a State Government rollout that will see more than 100 extra sets of school zone flashing lights installed this year.
The lights on Owen Street will operate automatically between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm on school days during term time.
Flashing lights are linked to a central computer system which operates lights across the state.
Trials of flashing lights have found they helped to slow motorists by an average of seven kilometres an hour when they enter a school zone.
The government will contact local residents affected by the installation of the lights.
