Lifestyle links for residents

A NEW Facebook page and website for lifestyle and sustainability issues is now available for Armidale residents.

Armidale Dumaresq Council’s (ADC) Sustainability Co-ordinator, Carol Davies, said Lifestyle 2350 would be a place for everyone who wanted to share in, learn about and add to the Armidale lifestyle.
“Lifestyle 2350 is about celebrating our terrific lifestyle here in the New England and ensuring it only becomes better and more sustainable,” Ms Davies said.
“It’s also about involvement. We want to hear from you: what you love, what you would like to improve and how you want to be involved.”
Ms Davies said Lifestyle 2350 aimed to be broad and inclusive. This links in well with ADC’s Community Strategic Plan, towards which residents contributed their goals and aspirations, including directions toward better sustainability.
This has formed Council’s mission and vision statement Excellent Lifestyle – Sustainable Growth, she said.
“It’s about getting a handy map of local cycle paths, knowing what time of year to plant local foods, finding great things to do on the weekend, knowing where to buy local food, saving on energy bills, helping improve air quality in winter, and that’s just scratching the surface,” Ms Davies said.
To celebrate its launch, Lifestyle 2350 is giving away an iPad mini, flue cleanings and Smart Burns as part of its Favourite Winter Word promotion. To enter, just look up Lifestyle 2350 on Facebook at www.facebook.com/lifestyle2350
Lifestyle 2350 is also urging residents to vote for the Chickens in Schools project. Whichever town gets the most Facebook votes gets the dollars for their project.
“Our project is to install chicken coops in six local schools,” Ms Davies said. “Ag students from Armidale High will then train students at the host schools in how to care for their new feathered friends.
“If we win, we’ll all be a step closer to eating more local food – but to make it happen we need everyone to go to our Facebook page and vote for us.”
