Chris and Maz Smith have put their walking boots on for a cause they believe in.
So too, Port Macquarie’s Debbie Ward, Di Hughes, Mandy Mowle and Caryn Hampson will be stepping it out for Oxfam.
The residents will join about 550 teams of four who will walk 100kms from Brooklyn (on the Hawkesbury) to Mosman (on Sydney Harbour), starting on Friday, August 26 as part of the endurance challenge ‘Oxfam Trailwalker’.
Chris, the Business Banking Manager at Bendigo Bank in Port Macquarie, and his wife Maz, have again joined a team of two other people dubbed team Two and a Half Men and a Woman.
Debbie, Di, Mandy and Caryn will make up the MNC Good Sorts team, sponsored by the Mid-North Coast Girls’ Surf Riders.
This is a challenge to complete a 100km bushwalk as a team of four in less than 48 hours to raise funds for Oxfam Australia to help communities overcome poverty in more than 28 countries around the world, including Indigenous Australia.
Chris and Maz aim is to raise a minimum of $5000.
Their team exceeded this last year and are hoping to improve on this figure this year.
Chris and Maz have put in a full three-month training program in preparation for the event, which has included a six-hour walk (approximately 30km) each Saturday, along with a mid-week four-hour walk (approximately 20km).
Thrown into the mix has been an eight-hour trek up and down North Brother Mountain four times in a row, which proved extremely challenging.
So too, the MNC Good Sorts have already been to Sydney to conquer the track and are fighting fit and in good spirits, ready to raise a mint, Debbie said.
Chris and Maz also held a fundraising barbecue at Bunnings for the Oxfam Charity Fundraiser, raising $768.97 for the cause.
