Port Central went “cha, cha, cha” and “la, la, la” on the weekend with a spontaneous high note performance by local talent.
An idea, seen online, started the cogs ticking in two imaginative Hastings residents.
Stacey Morgan from Port Macquarie Performing Arts and a Telegraph Point resident, James Patterson, surprised and entertained in the local shopping complex on Saturday at 12.05pm.
Performers from Port Macquarie Performing Arts, Sing Australia and Port Macquarie Players Theatre descended on the Centre to provide a break in the everyday norm for shoppers by dancing and singing up a storm.
It started with a choral rendition of “Hallelujah” breaking out in Port Central’s Food Court and was joined by a wave of movement from 40 local dancers.
What the unknowing locals did not expect was for all this to happen during their Saturday shopping trip.
Stacey Morgan; Principal from Port Macquarie Performing Arts, Trish Davis from Sing Australia, Jacob Merchant from The Players Theatre and imaginative Telegraph Point resident James Patterson worked hard to prepare some 100-plus participants for just four minutes.
They said it was clear that surprised shoppers were not expecting this type of event occurring and that is the magic with a “Flashmob” — “you don’t know when, you don’t know where”.
Port Central marketing guru, Cathy Snook, was thrilled with the idea to entertain and host the event.
After four months of planning and rehearsal, it was contained within a busting four minutes.
