Art’s elite showcase finest works

Resident Lynne Bickhoff“s “outstanding” painting The Carcoar Jaunt has taken the top accolade at the Hastings Valley Fine Art Association’s (HVFAA) 6th Summer Showcase Exhibition held recently at the Laurieton United Services Club.
The Showcase is the major event in the annual calendar of the Association attracting hundreds of visitors, and for the second time, incorporated the Mid North Coast Open Art Prize, with prize money of $1000, which was open to all artists living in the Mid North Coast area.
The Open section attracted 75 entries, and in all over 280 paintings were hung, making an interesting and vibrant exhibition.
In making the competition awards, Judge Jim Matsinos congratulated the Association .
“This year’s exhibition lived up to the high standard that has come to characterise this exhibition,” he said.
“It was good to see the open art prize offered to all local artists, and selecting the winner was a difficult task with so many excellent contenders.
“Congratulations to all the artists, but particularly to the winner Lynne Bickhoff for her outstanding painting The Carcoar Jaunt.”
Lynne is a member of HVFAA, and is also a member of the Hastings Art Trail.
Two other artists were recognised with Highly Commended Awards – Jill Cairns for Listen Through There! and Phillip Thornton for his oil painting Cradle Mountain Sunrise.
Other winners were Brian Barker (Watercolour), Elsa Toms (Acrylic or Oil) , Francessca O’Donnell (Contemporary or Mixed media) , Dorothy Taylor (Flowers or Still life), Jill Cairns (Drawing) and Jen Andrews (Pastel) .
Kim McLean was named Emerging Artist of the Year for her excellent watercolour entries.
