Take a day off for Claire

Comedian Steve Allison intends to use his celebrity for good next month, by supporting a fundraiser for Claire Matilda.
After her birth in 2010, Claire was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, Cri du Chat Syndrome. Her mother, Hannah Gutke said the disease has an estimated incidence of 1:37000 to 1:50000, and is relatively unknown.
“As her parents, we want to give her every opportunity to reach her full potential. Early intervention is vital. The unprecedented cost of raising a child with a disability has already put financial strain on our family,” she said.
“It is unfortunate that Claire is ineligible for the most recent government initiative supporting early intervention as her condition is so rare, and by the time the National Disability Insurance Scheme is active in Queensland, the time for early intervention for Claire will have passed.
“We want to provide for her needs now and into the future, while still maintaining quality of life as a whole family.”
Steve Allison is encouraging ‘everyone to take a day off for Claire’ and attend the fundraising lunch on the ocean front deck at Saltbar. Not only will you have the time of your life you will be helping Claire have the best start to life by helping fund early intervention.
The entertainment line up also includes guest speaker Wayne Bennett, who was a sell out at his last appearance at Saltbar in 2010.
Organiser Katrina Dudley said “This will be a fantastic day out, and a great excuse to take a half day off work. Proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Gutke family along with all monies raised from the live auctions and raffles. It’s the most fun you can have with fundraising, everyone will have a great afternoon out and be helping a lovely little girl have the best shot at a normal life.”
The fundraiser will be held at Salt Village, Kingscliff on Friday, February 4. Tickets are $125 per person or you can get a discount if you get a table of 10 for only $1200. Tickets include a delicious buffet and all you can drink beverage package. Call 02 6674 5587 to secure your ticket.
