A PORT Macquarie man was last week charged with the indecent assault of a child and the possession of child abuse material after being arrested by Child Abuse Squad detectives.
On Wednesday 12 June, police received a report that a nine-year-old girl was indecently assaulted by a man known to her family earlier in the week.
Child Abuse Squad detectives from Port Macquarie began investigations and the next day attended the man’s home and placed him under arrest.
A search warrant was conducted on the man’s home, with a quantity of child abuse material located on computer equipment.
The 52-year-old man was charged with aggravated indecent assault and possessing child abuse material.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court on Monday 8 July.
Investigations are continuing.
The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical and emotional abuse and serious cases of neglect.
The squad works in partnership with the Department of Family and Community Services and NSW Health, with specialised tri-agency teams based at metropolitan and regional locations throughout NSW.
