This year, the Hastings Communications Rural Fire Brigade is opening the doors to the Hastings Fire Control Centre this Saturday, September 22, for the public to come in and have a look around.
The communications room is often referred to as the nerve centre for the Rural Fire Service – a critical link between the firefighters on the fire ground and the Incident Management Teams. These teams run small- and large-scale incidents including motor vehicle accidents, bush and grass fires, structure fires and other agency assistance calls.
The Communications members will be looking to show you around and explain how each section works. These include paging, fire mapping, resource distribution, radio messaging and weather recording. You will also see it in action, gaining an appreciation for how the other end of the radio operates.
If you have ever given a thought to volunteering with the Communications section of the Rural Fire Service, or just want to see all the action, call on by. The members will be in from 10am until 3pm at 108 Cameron Street, Wauchope.
