Port Macquarie’s Michelle and Chris Delaney have come first in the mixed team’s Kathmandu 12-hour race in Forster over the weekend.
The pair made the 12-hour challenge in 6 hours, 39 minutes and 5 seconds.
Over 170 Australian athletes took part in the race, in both the 24-hour and 12-hour events that pushed them well beyond their mental and physical limits.
Covering five hectares of bush-land near Piper’s Bay, Forster, the events saw teams of two orienteer deep into the night across a 115km physically-demanding course facing varying legs of kayaking, running and mountain biking.
The ultimate test of endurance, competitors in the 24-hour event faced approximately 30km trail running, 70km mountain biking and 15km kayaking. Their 12-hour counterparts braved 20km trail running, 40km mountain biking and 10km kayaking.
In its eighth consecutive year, the Kathmandu 24 Hour and 12 Hour are part of the Kathmandu Adventure Series – race events taking place across Australia and New Zealand that play host to over 3,500 competitors every year. In the series’ eight-year history over 15,000 racers have participated.
