Four members of a local Shelley Beach family have been presented with Bravery Awards for their efforts in a tragic surf rescue involving two locals from Upper Rollands Plains.
Chris Huber and his wife, Laila Pedersen, were caught in a rip at Shelly Beach on February 26, 2010, from which Chris Huber tragically did not survive.
The Royal Humane Society of NSW awarded Gary Patrick Holcroft and Paul Joseph Holcroft bronze medals for risking their lives in bringing Chris and Laila back to shore.
Paul Derek Holcroft received a Certificate of Merit, and Tané Holcroft, along with Bruce Robson, also from Port Macquarie, received a Citation as acknowledgement of their efforts in aiding the rescue. Her Excellency, Professor Marie Bashir AC, CVO, Governor of NSW, presented the awards in an official ceremony at Government House in Sydney on October 5, 2012.
