Nicole Bushnell has invented a product called Headgear, which is a uniquely designed rim that attaches to all nippers/surf lifesaving caps, providing much needed sun protection.
The rim is worn extended when on the beach and can be flipped inside the cap when in the water.
Taking only seconds to insert, the rim conforms comfortably to the shape of the head, allowing the person to dive underwater unhindered without having to remove the cap from the head before swimming.
The transition both in and out is fast, easy and effective.
Over the past couple of weekends, Mrs Bushnell has displayed and demonstrated Headgear’s use at various surf clubs on the east coast and have had overwhelming support and interest in our product.
“Parents have unanimously agreed that there is a dire need for functional sun protection on our kids and love the idea that Headgear can be retracted within the cap quickly and with ease.
“We have had an affirming number of enquiries from both clubs and individuals, asking when they will be available for sale.
“There is a growing consensus that mandatory adaptation to the nippers/surf lifesaving cap should be considered at state or national level.
“With state and national endorsement, I would like to create the possibility of all children participating in nippers and surf lifesaving to be sun safe wearing Headgear.
“Think, not only for our children’s sun protection but as a functional addition to competition and patrols. This is an investment in beach safety and our future.”
