Defence Force the way for Joshua

Joshua McCrea from Westport High School is getting an inside look at our defence forces.
The Year 11 student was awarded a Defence Technical Scholarship and hit regional defence force hubs to learn the ins and outs of what it’s all about last week.
Winners of the 2011 Defence Technical Scholarship, along with their teachers, visited Navy, Army and Air Force recruit and trade training schools to see and hear from ADF personnel in their normal working environments, across the state.
The students and teachers were able to view a variety of training facilities within the ADF as well as experience living ‘on base’.
Scholarships were awarded to 1500 Years 11 and 12 students this year, with Year 11 students eligible for $2000 and Year 12 students $3000.
Whilst scholarship recipients are not required to apply to enter the ADF on completion of their secondary education, fostering a genuine interest in an ADF technical trade career was one of the underlying aims.
