Torbay to head Decentralisation taskforce

Examining how existing NSW Government facilities can be better positioned to benefit regional communities and advise on the government’s Decentralisation strategy and regional policies will be a new focus for Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay, who has been given the job of leading a Decentralisation Taskforce by Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Infrastructure & Services, Andrew Stoner.
The announcement, made last week, will see the Taskforce concentrate on key strategies, including: The Regional Relocation Grant program, Jobs Action Plan (regional component), Restart NSW (regional component), and Resources for the Regions.
Member for Northern Tablelands Richard Torbay said he was pleased to be given the opportunity to advise on and help drive the Government’s decentralisation initiatives.
“I am delighted to be appointed to the NSW Government’s Decentralisation Taskforce and am eager to begin work and secure some real wins for regional NSW,” Mr Torbay said.
“Regional NSW is a great place to live and work, but some communities have their fair share of problems and there is an important role for Government to play in addressing these issues.
“One of the best ways we can improve regional communities is by helping to boost regional economies, and decentralising Government agencies and localising decision making can really help, be it through new jobs or the additional investment those jobs bring.
“I have always been a strong advocate for regional communities and I am looking forward to continuing this work through the Decentralisation Taskforce.”
The Taskforce will consult with key groups including: Evocities, NSW Farmers, CWA, Foundation for Regional Development and local councils. A report will be submitted to the NSW Government by March 2013.
