Legendary Qantas Wallaby coach Robbie Deans kicked off the union calendar in Port Macquarie and Wauchope last week promoting rugby in local schools and educating our coaches.
The aim of the trip was to generate interest in the upcoming Friday night secondary school rugby competition and provide local junior and senior coaches with the latest updates for the 2012 season.
Wallabies coach Robbie Deans was in town last week to pass on his rugby union knowhow to our youngsters.
When talking about Port Macquarie, Deans said, “It’s an area of the country that I am hearing good things about.
“I’ve no doubt about the enthusiasm for the game in the region.
“Being a product of “country’ rugby myself, I identify with the passion and commitment that exists for the game, and the sacrifices that are often made in the name of rugby in regional NSW.”
Robbie’s visit kicked off on Wednesday with a Port Macquarie Junior Rugby sign-on from 4.30pm at Stuart Park.
This was followed by a Coach the Coaches clinic, for all junior and senior coaches at the same venue.
On Thursday Robbie was the guest of the Mid-North Coast Junior Rugby for a Business Breakfast at the Westport Club before visiting local schools in Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Taree.
“We are extremely fortunate to have Robbie available to pass on his knowledge and motivate players and coaches on the Mid-North Coast for the upcoming season. Hopefully his visit will inspire some of our local players to bigger things,” said ARU Development Manager Bruce Frame.
