Never too old to celebrate this week

A packed schedule of activities is underway in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area to celebrate Seniors Week.
The theme for 2012 NSW Seniors Week is “Live Life!’ and aims to encourage seniors to actively participate in the community.
Community Development Officer Julie Priest encouraged seniors to collect their free Seniors Week “Live Life!’ booklet from Council’s Customer Service centres, the Glasshouse Visitor Information Centre, or any of the Hastings libraries to find out more about each of the planned events.
“This year we have more than 30 events registered to take place throughout Seniors Week,” Ms Priest said.
Seniors Week 2012 was launched at the Town Green on Monday to the beautiful voices of Sing Australia and the “Granny’ crafts public art on display, with a Devonshire tea also provided.
Granny Graffiti:
This intergenerational public art project sees town statues and places transformed with knitted, woven and crocheted fibres.
Over the past few weeks, seniors have been working with classes of children, teaching them to knit in preparation for the art installation on display all through this week.
Town Green was one community space which received a woollen makeover during Seniors Week.
Mobility scooter safety workshop:
Seniors are encouraged to come along to the free mobility scooter safety workshops scheduled through the Hastings during Seniors Week. Seniors can learn about their rights and responsibilities and how to maintain and safely use their scooters.
Sessions will be held in Port Macquarie, Laurieton and Wauchope with morning tea, giveaways and free showbags available for scooter users as well.
The 1.5 hour workshops have been funded by an NRMA grant.
Workshop times and dates can be found in Council’s Seniors Week “Live Life’ booklet.
10am, Friday, March 23 at Wauchope Senior Citizens

Hosted by Mid-North Coast Co-Operative Library Service, the evening of trivia is guaranteed to be a truly wonderful evening of trivia silliness.
