Diplomatic visit

JAPANESE Consul General Masahiro Kohara was a special guest in Port Macquarie last week.

Dr Kohara was invited by MP Leslie Williams to explore and experience some of the region’s most popular tourist attractions, taste local produce and meet local tourism industry representatives.
Mrs Williams said Dr Kohara’s visit would highlight the many options available to visitors from Japan, which could encourage them to choose Port Macquarie as a holiday destination.
“While many overseas visitors to NSW will have a stopover in Sydney high on their list, this government encourages all holidaymakers to visit a regional or coastal area like Port Macquarie,” Mrs Williams said.
“With dozens of hotels, motels, caravan parks and serviced apartments on offer, the area is well-equipped to host overseas guests.
“And with a selection of transport options to the area, including two dedicated flight services to and from Sydney, the Mid North Coast is an accessible and attractive location.”
Mrs Williams said she was pleased to be able to host Dr Kohara for the day and show him why Port Macquarie was such a popular holiday spot.
“We have the sun and surf, beautiful rainforests and the Billabong Sanctuary, where I hope Dr Kohara will take the opportunity to get up close with a koala,” Mrs Williams said.
