Sunday, September 18 saw the running of the inaugural Forster Running Festival.
The event covered distances to suit all fitness levels and abilities up to the 21.1km half marathon distance.
Many runners from Port Macquarie journeyed south for the event and were not disappointed with the day dawning with perfect conditions for running, clear blue skies and a light wind.
The run was designed to take in as much of the scenic waterfront as possible which made the event that little more enjoyable, with plenty of chances along the way to steal a quick look at the Forster/Tuncurry foreshore.
A special congratulations goes out to two of Port Macquarie’s young guns in Nick Hurlstone and Shaun Vidler who ran the half marathon shoulder to shoulder (and smiling).
Eventually it was Nick who managed a break away in the latter stages of the race to run into overall second position, closely followed by Shaun in third overall.
Whilst on the subject of Young Guns, Harry Jones also from Port Macquarie ran a blistering pace to take the honours in the 10km run.
On top of these achievements, as the presentations were given out Port Macquarie was well represented in age group division placings right throughout all divisions, overall a great effort by all who took place in the event.
A special thank you goes out to Peter Camilleri and his team for organising a fantastic event and no doubt word will spread and many more from Port Macquarie will venture south next year to take advantage of a well organised and run event.
