World’s at Bianca’s feet

Bianca Kenny, a Year 11 student at Port Macquarie High, is one of 20 lucky scholarship recipients who will be heading overseas to follow the journey of our ANZACs.The Premier’s ANZAC Memorial Scholarships for 2012 were announced recently by the Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello MP and RSL State Vice President John Haines AM.Minister Dominello said the 20 chosen students will represent NSW schools at visits to ANZAC sites in Korea and the Western Front, and in Singapore and Vietnam and they will take part in commemorative services in those places.“This will be a life-changing experience for these young people and will guarantee the courage and sacrifice of our ANZAC servicemen and women lives on in a new generation of Australians,” Mr Dominello said.Bianca said she was extremely excited about the adventures ahead. “I couldn’t wait for the confirmation of it to be true. I didn’t expect it,” she said. Bianca’s history teacher, Stuart Jackson, nominated her for the scholarship. He said she was one of his best Modern History students and was a most deserving winner.The students will leave in September for an 18 day tour. The 20 students will be divided into two groups of 10 with one group going to Korea and the Western Front and Bianca will be one of the 10 students going on the Singapore and Vietnam tour. They have had an orientation day in Sydney and have formed their own “Facebook” group.On returning Bianca said she would share the knowledge with her peers.“The students will take part in commemorative activities at schools and memorials, as well as submitting an individual project about their experiences. On their return they will use their experience to disseminate the valuable lessons they have gleaned from their travels,” Mr Dominello said.The students will be sent the details of their itinerary in coming days.
