Lake Cathie appears to be overflowing.
The water level in Lake Cathie has reached opening height of 1.6m AHD as adopted in Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s Lake Cathie Management Strategy.
The water level in the lake has reached a level where the water has started to flow over the berm.
This means the lake has started to drain and water levels are unlikely to rise further.
Manager Natural Resources Tim Molloy said the ocean levels are currently elevated and are highly likely to push significant amounts of sand into the lake as well as contribute to an early closure.
These elevated ocean conditions are predicted to decrease over the next few days, which will provide Council the opportunity to conduct a manual opening of the lake if required.
Council will continue to closely monitor the situation and will take action to open the lake if necessary.
