Call for community comment

Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams have called for community comment on a draft Plan of Management for Hastings Regional Crown Reserve, Precinct A.

“The Regional Crown Reserve covers an extensive tract of Crown land, with Precinct A including the Port Macquarie Marina, Kooloonbung Creek Harbour and Town Beach Reserve,” Mr Stoner said.

“A draft Plan of Management has been developed by the NSW Government, Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and the Foreshore Lands Advisory Group (FLAG) in order to determine the future management of this important public reserve.

“The draft is now on public exhibition and members of the community are invited to provide feedback from this Friday,” he said.

The draft Plan will be able to be examined from Friday at Port Macquarie-Hastings Council Chambers, the Taree Crown Lands office or online at: www.crownland.nsw.gov.au/crown_lands_/crown_reserves/management

“The draft Plan identifies key community objectives for future management of the Crown foreshore reserves from Settlement Point to Town Beach,” Mr Stoner said.

Local Member and FLAG Chair Leslie Williams said, “Our local community has shown just how important it is for our foreshore to be protected and enhanced.

“Now that Westport Park’s Plan of Management is in place, I am pleased that we are finally able to develop a similar plan for the remainder of the foreshore,” Mrs Williams said.

“The foreshore is an important com-munity asset for Port Macquarie and the Plan of Management will complement other planning strategies developed by Council and supported by the community.

“The strategic aim of the draft Plan is to develop the Port Macquarie CBD waterfront as vibrant, interactive and supportive of the local economy,” Mrs Williams said.

“The precinct should become a sustainable social, environmental and economic hub that will better cater for the existing and future needs of Port Macquarie.

“However, any future development of the foreshore within the precinct will remain relatively low key.

“It is important the community get involved and have their say during the eight-week consultation period,” Mrs Williams concluded.
