Mid-North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) has received a $32,000 grant from the Federal Government to improve palliative care services in the region.
The funding will provide additional equipment for patients receiving end-of-life care in their home in regions including Port Macquarie, Bellingen, Coffs Harbour and Macksville.
New equipment includes oxygen concentrators, syringe drivers for administering medication, comfort aids and a lift chair.
Stewart Dowrick, MNCLHD Chief Executive said the funding supported patients and their families during a very difficult period.
“New equipment will provide more comfort and support for patients with a non-curable illness as well as offer additional support for families,” Stewart Dowrick said.
The Commonwealth Palliative Care Equip-ment Loan Scheme was established to improve access to equipment for palliative care for clients receiving care in community based settings.
The loan scheme allows families to access the equipment they need when caring for family members at home.
Patients who are registered with the MNCLHD Palliative Care service and have a clinical need will be able to access this important equipment.
The provision of loan equipment makes caring for palliative patients easier by providing ergonomically suitable equipment.
