Quilting for charity

The Point Community Church (TPCC) is partnering with a very poor church in Msaranga, at the base of Mt Kiliminjaro in  Tanzania, to raise funds to build a Child Development Centre, which will be operated by Compassion when complete.
This great need was identified by Ian and Meg Hazelton, currently living in Port Macquarie and supported by TPCC, when they were missionaries in Tanzania.
When constructed, Compassion Australia will take over the operation of the Centre and 250+ school-age children will have their first opportunity to receive proper education, health checks and nutritious meals.
These children will need ongoing sponsorship of $44 per month for the duration of their school life.
To date, over $57,000 of the $75,000 required has been raised.
The Wauchope Patchwork Quilters Group has made and donated a gorgeous queen-size black and white quilt with slashes of colour through it, for us to use as a fundraising Guessing Competition.
The group makes and donates many quilts every year to local charity, Bourke Hospital maternity unit, breast cancer, Christchurch earthquake victims and Queensland flood victims, among many.
The church is not permitted to hold raffles but has decided to have a Guessing Competition where folk can guess how many pieces of fabric are in the quilt – $2 per guess or 3 guesses for $5.
The competition runs until April 30, 2012.
Tickets will be sold in Wauchope outside the Department Store on Monday, December 5, and in Port Macquarie outside the NAB on Thursday, December 15 from 1pm, also on certain days from January to March 2012.
Further details about the cause can be found at www.msaranga.blogspot.com.
