Things are looking up for Year 8 Port Macquarie High School student Sarah Bisco who is in “good spirits” and doing well as she undergoes treatment for an eye melanoma in the UK.
Sarah was recently diagnosed with iris melanoma and was told she may lose her eye.
Her doctors made the family aware of an expensive treatment that was available at the Royal Liverpool Hospital in the UK.
This hospital is one of very few in the world that can administer the Proton Beam Therapy that Sarah needs to counteract the melanoma.
Sarah’s parents Col and Kate Bisco have been able to update Port High’s principal Mark Longstaff of her condition via email.
The Biscos have been to Liverpool for consultations and treatment planning for Sarah, the email said.
And the family is currently staying with relatives in Essex before heading back up to Liverpool for the actual Proton Beam Therapy which will last a week.
“Sarah is in good spirits and at the moment is surrounded by family, some of whom she has met for the first time,” Col and Kate said in an email to Mr Longstaff.
“Words cannot express our sincere thanks and gratitude for everything that you and the staff and students have done for our family to this point.”
In the interim, students and staff at Port High have been busy raising much needed funds for the family.
You too can help. Donations can be made at the front office at Port High which is lodging all monies raised directly into the Bisco family’s bank account.
