Do you know someone who has made a valued contribution to the community?
Here’s your chance to say thankyou.
Rural Women’s Network co-ordinator Allison Priest said people in the Hastings and surrounding communities were invited to nominate rural women volunteers for the 2013 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.
“The initiative formally recognises the valuable contributions made by rural women to their communities,” Ms Priest said
“You could nominate a friend, family member, colleague, community worker – any rural women who you believe make your community a better place to live.
“All women nominated will be included in this year’s Honour Roll, which allows the whole community to celebrate the important roles women volunteers play in regional cities, towns and villages.”
Sharon Griffiths from Redbank and Pix Jonasson from Port Macquarie are two such “hidden treasures” who were included in the 2012 honour roll.
“Both of these inspirational women are dedicated community advocates working tirelessly to ensure the best possible outcomes for her local communities,” Ms Priest said.
“Sharon is the founding member of the Wauchope Business Group and has been instrumental in representing the view of the Wauchope community to the Port Macquarie Hastings Council.
“She is also a dedicated community advocate giving countless hours of her time working with business owners and local residents.
“Pix volunteers for many organisations and events in the local community and is a very active member of the Hastings Business Enterprise Network, Hastings Business Women’s Network and Peer Solutions.”
Ms Priest said the honour roll was open to all female volunteers living outside the metropolitan centres of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
“Last year we uncovered more than 100 quiet achievers and unsung heroes – we are hoping for a similar number this year,” she said.
Nominations can be completed online or sent on a form, available by calling 6391 3620 or by visiting www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/rwn
The 2013 honour roll will be launched at the annual NSW Rural Women’s Gathering at Scone on October 26.
