Oakeshott faces debate challenge

Independent Member for Lyne Rob Oakeshott has taken up Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker’s offer to debate the merits of their respective stances on reducing carbon emissions. “I have written to Mr Hartsuyker in response to his public willingness to discuss a price on carbon, and offered him the opportunity to debate the issue at one of the free community forums I’ve organised over the coming month,” Mr Oakeshott said. “The forums, which will be held throughout the Lyne Electorate, will provide locals with the opportunity to hear details of the policies and upcoming legislation, and I am therefore happy to offer the Member for Cowper the chance to debate our differing approaches to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. “Whilst the community forums will be an opportunity to discuss a range of issues affecting our electorate, I am willing to make time available at one of the forums to allow Mr Hartsuyker to explain the Coalition position, particularly in light of the contradictory messages they have been making in relation to their direct action policy approach. “The community forums are in the process of being finalised and Mr Hartsuyker is welcome to choose a forum that is suitable to his diary, and time will be set aside for a policy debate. “I also look forward to debating this issue in the Federal Parliament when the legislation is put before the House of Representatives later this year,” Mr Oakeshott said.
