Volunteer surf lifesavers on the Mid-North Coast now have access to a state of the art, custom built equipment trailer thanks to a $10,000 donation from Enterprise & Training Company Limited (ETC).
Surf Life Saving Mid-North Coast President Rod McDonagh said the donation from ETC enabled the branch to design a trailer that better suited their needs now and into the future.
“We had a 15-year-old trailer that was too small, unsafe, difficult to tow and not suited for the beach,” Mr McDonagh said.
“Thanks to ETC we have been able to design a multi-purpose trailer that can be used by the eight clubs in our branch for education purposes and surf sports carnivals.”
Mr McDonagh said one of the many attributes of the new trailer was that it was fully enclosed and could keep valuable rescue equipment secure when not in use.
“We’ve had gear stolen from our last trailer because half the locks were broken,” Mr McDonagh said.
“The new trailer has been designed to fit a rubber ducky and motor and features purpose built compartments for all our other equipment.
“Being able to keep everything secure is a big load off our minds, particularly when we are talking about equipment worth in excess of $30,000 if it had to be replaced.”
Mr McDonagh said the eight clubs in the branch, located between Macksville Scotts Head in the north and Camden Haven in the south were looking forward to being able to utilise the trailer.
“This new trailer has been designed to go on the beach and has an announcer,s table on top so, at events and competitions, it can accommodate a broadcaster,” Mr McDonagh said.
