A top Canadian ironman professional is staying in Port Macquarie in the lead-up to the Urban Hotel Group Ironman Australia Triathlon on May 1.
Star athlete Scott Curry is staying with Darrell Nash and his family for three weeks in the lead-up to the event.
The 35-year-old said he was training about 35 hours a week to be in his best form for the race.
His goal, he said, was to beat his personal best: 8 hours and 45 minutes.
Scott, who has been competing for about 20 years, said he gave up his career as a chiropractor to put in the hard yards as a full-time professional athlete.
He did so last year, and has spent the past five months in New Zealand getting himself physically and mentally in tune for his
chosen sport.
Scott also follows a controlled diet plan and eats very regularly.
So what keeps this champ on a roll?
“It’s a primal desire to succeed and conquer the physical endeavour,” Scott said.
“I have a competitive spirit; I explore and express my best in a positive way through sport.”
