It was ready, set, roll for participants in Tacking Point Public School’s annual Year 2 Car Rally last week.
The variety of car makes and models, including flying ones, was a sight to behold, a spokesman said. “Students raced their home-built cars along the prepared ‘drag strip’ as well as the testing ‘Heart Attack Hill’ endurance circuit,” he said.
“Some cars were better suited to straight-line speed with big engines and wide wheels. Others were built for long distance racing with reliability being the key, whilst others were truly futuristic in their design.”
Ben O’Brian provided the crowd and officials with the scare of the day when he crashed his car on the fastest part of the track.
Luckily, his car was engineered to protect its driver and he walked away with barely a scratch.
“A big thank you to Mrs Croad and the Year 2 teachers for their organisation of the day,” the spokesman said.
“It was also wonderful to see so many family members also enjoy and support this unique event.”
Having fun with maths was the crux of another special event for primary school students held at Port Macquarie High School recently.
Children resolved to solve maths problems on August 24, that were organised by the Year 8 students at Port High.
Tacking Point Public School entered two teams consisting of Tahlia, Ella and Ella in Team A and Corey, Max and Flynn in Team B.
Team A scored enough points to place first in the competition.
