Wauchope students stand out

Two Year 12 Wauchope High students, Trent Clayworth and Anna Rienstra, were recently presented  with the NSW Minister of Education’s Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement.
There are in excess of 30,000 Year 12 students in NSW schools and the NSW Department of Education and Communities chose the top 37 Year 12 students to receive awards of excellence.
The North Coast Region nominated three candidates for this most prestigious award.
Anna Rienstra was chosen, as she is an outstanding student who personifies what public education is about.
Anna has achieved distinction in her academic studies. She is a self-motivated student who has diligently pursued excellence across all curriculum areas. Consequently, Anna has been dux of her year continuously since Year 7.
Anna has also regularly competed very successfully in academic competitions and has recently distinguished herself by winning awards from Zonta and the University of Newcastle in Science, culminating in being selected to participate in the APEC Science Festival in Thailand in 2011.
Anna’s leadership activities include: current President of the SRC; peer support leader; and a finalist in the Lions Youth of the Year Quest in 2010.
She has received the Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award in both 2009 and 2010.
Anna also enjoys success in many, varied extracurricular activities including sport, is a member as a flautist in the NSW State Wind Band and debating.
Anna received the Bago Community of Schools Award for contribution to Public Education in 2010.
Trent Clayworth was chosen as he  is a conscientious student who consistently gives his best effort. He has been placed in the top positions of his cohort, across all curriculum areas, throughout his high school career.
Trent has also successfully participated in academic competitions in Mathematics and Science.
Trent is an outstanding sportsman, being named, on two occasions, Sportsman of the Year at Wauchope High School.
He has represented the region in a variety of sports and was recently selected in the NSW state side for Volleyball. Last year Trent was voted School Captain and in this role he has represented the school admirably in the community and undertaken leadership courses in Sydney. Trent was also a Peer Support leader in 2010.
