Aaron Nebauer, a Year 10 student at Port Macquarie High School, feels like he has won a jackpot.
Aaron has been accepted by World Education Pro-gram Australia Limited (WEP) for a 12-month exchange in the Netherlands for 2013.
Aaron found out about the exchange program from a conversation with his teacher and other students at school. He was interested immediately.
“I picked the Netherlands, as Mum is from there and I had visited with family on a number of occasions,” Aaron said.
Aaron is learning Dutch from lessons at home with his mother and is keen to become fluent.
“Learning the language is one of my main reasons for going,” he said.
Aaron is keen to help fund his expenses and he has a part-time job at Woolworths and is saving as much as he can.
He expects the whole trip to cost around $10,000.
At present he is involved with the SES Training Program being run at the school for Year 10 students who are interested.
Aaron’s brother, Daniel, has just completed his HSC at Port High and is looking forward to a break from his studies.
Daniel does not plan on accompanying Aaron this time.
Aaron doesn’t know yet what part of the Netherlands he will be visiting and going to school, as the process of arranging host families in still in progress.
He is comfortable with that arrangement as he knows that Mum’s relatives will be there to be visited when the opportunity presents itself.
