MORE than $6000 was raised for the Hastings Education Fund at a Port Macquarie golf event on Sunday.
Fund chairman Peter Cuskelly said it was a terrific result, considering the golf day looked in doubt after heavy rain on Friday and Saturday morning.
“We have partnerships with major universities and they co-fund us, so raising $6000 was the equivalent of raising $12,000,” Mr Cuskelly said.
“My committee was really heartened by the results.”
The Hastings Education Fund is largely in its infancy, having been founded in March, 2011, but is already supporting 36 students at TAFE and university across the country.
“We have students across four different states – but they are all locals,” Mr Cuskelly said.
“That’s a great result considering we are only in our second year of financial support.”
