Health goes high-tech

ANOTHER important development in the Vision for Life Program has been launched in Port Macquarie.
In a jointly funded project by NSW Health and Variety, the Children’s Charity initiative, the Vision for Life Program focuses on introducing video conferencing technology to the consultation and retrieval process for sick and injured babies and children.
Port Macquarie Base Hospital has received the potentially life-saving telehealth system as part of the program, linking local hospital staff with specialists from the Sydney Children’s Hospital network and the Newborn and Paediatric Emergency Transport Service.
Variety continues to raise funds for additional Vision for Life cameras and the Port Macquarie project was one of the key sites for further rollout of the system.
The aim is to have cameras installed in all emergency departments and key paediatric and neo-natal units statewide.
