The NSW Government has pledged $10,000 in funding towards the Plan of Management for the Port Macquarie Foreshore.
Deputy Premier and Member for Oxley Andrew Stoner, who is responsible for Crown Lands, along with the Member for Port Macquarie Leslie Williams, met with members of the Foreshore Lands Advisory Group (FLAG) to discuss the future of the Port Macquarie Foreshore.
“I am pleased that following the successful protection of Westport Park, we can now turn our attention to the remaining foreshore,” Mr Stoner said.
“The foreshore is an important community asset for Port Macquarie, and it’s important we put in place an appropriate plan for its future.
“A lot of work had previously been done by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council to develop a draft Plan of Management for the Foreshore which attracted huge public interest during the consultation period.
“Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has offered to co-ordinate a new draft Plan of Management for the Foreshore and I am pleased to say at the urging of the Member for Port Macquarie, Leslie Williams I am today announcing that this will in fact commence as soon as possible.
“The Plan of Management will be developed in close consultation with members, of FLAG and the local community, and we should expect to have a draft Plan ready within the next 6 months.”
Leslie Williams said she was looking forward to FLAG being at the coalface of the reinvigoration of the Town Green and Foreshore area of Port Macquarie which stretches from the boarder of Westport Park to Rocky Beach.
“A huge amount of work has already been done and I think it is a matter of looking at what has already been planned and then going back to the community with a draft to seek additional feedback to put the draft back on exhibition and seek additional feedback.
“Once the Foreshore Plan is adopted, I will work with Council to identify funding opportunities from both State and Federal Governments to ensure it is delivered sooner rather than later.
“I thank Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, which is already the Trust Manager for the Foreshore, to be the lead agency in the preparation of the draft Plan of Management and I look forward to the input of FLAG on this important piece of community infrastructure,” Mrs Williams said.
