Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s lifeguards report that near perfect beach conditions have seen a record number of beachgoers on the sand this summer.
Council’s Senior lifeguard Grant Hudson has attributed the rise in beach-goers to the great weather and perfect surf conditions we have seen in the Hastings over the last two months.
“Over the summer we’ve only recorded four or five days or large, dangerous surf and only a handful of days of consistent rain. This is a big difference to the conditions we had this time last year and it shows, with five of the beaches seeing a rise in visitor numbers.
“Town Beach has again been the most popular beach of the season, with over 20,000 more visitors than the previous year. This popularity also means it’s been the busiest for the lifeguard team, with 11 people rescued during patrol hours, another 45 first-aid cases and three major first-aid cases recorded,” said Mr Hudson.
“Town Beach has also been closed twice this summer, due to shark sightings which have been attributed to the warmer currents in the area.
“Flynn’s Beach was our next most popular natural attraction, with just over 70,000 visitors recorded.
