Residents who care about the environment and are interested in studying sustainability can now take advantage of a Diploma course delivered by Australia’s best institution in delivering sustainability education – North Coast TAFE.
Winner of the 2012 Australian Training Award in the National Skills for Sustainability Education category, North Coast TAFE has fast-tracked the delivery of the Diploma for 2013 because of high interest levels.
Alicia Bales, one of North Coast TAFE’s Sustainability team, says that the course has been designed around the international principles of Education for Sustainability.
“Essentially, the principles recognise that simply providing technical knowledge and skills about sustainability is not enough to bring about change in itself,” Ms Bales said.
“People need skills to think holistically and critically, as well as communicate, collaborate and participate in change for a sustainable future and this is what is available through this Diploma course.
“The course will build the skills of participants in facilitating behaviour change and improving the environmental, economic and social sustainability of the organisation or community they live or work in. Students will also explore the growing movement throughout Australian society, industry, business and government in improving the sustainability of everyday practices.”
Delivered at Lismore and Port Macquarie campuses, the course will run from February to November through nine intensive face-to-face workshops.
“Anyone from Kingscliff to Forster can be involved – in between workshops, students will connect through web conferences and undertake self-directed research and work-based projects,” says Ms Bales.
This course requires applicants to either already have, or be currently enrolled in, a Diploma or higher qualification.
