WAS it a bird? Was it a plane? No, it was Superhero Day!
More than 200 superheroes gathered at Jack Evans Boat Harbour for the second annual Superhero Saturday at the weekend.
Teams from all over the Tweed and even as far away as Ocean Shores and Toowoomba took on mission and conquered a range of challenges including the enormous rock wall, the giant worm and super sumos at the event – a major fund-raiser for The Family Centre.
“It was great to see so many families take part in this fun and healthy event. Families had a great time dressing up and taking on challenges together as a team,” Family Centre Executive Director David Boutkan said.
“All the teams looked fantastic, we had colourful superheroes flying about Jack Evans Boat Harbour.
“The people of Tweed Heads would have felt very safe on Saturday with all the superheroes we had in town!
“Almost 60 teams entered this year’s event – making the event four times bigger than last year.
“Mayor Barry Longland also attended the day and was impressed by the community response and the efforts of The Family Centre team in building such a great family event.
Superhero Saturday is The Family Centre’s major fund-raiser of the year and we know it will just keep getting bigger and better.
“We really appreciate the support of the community and all the local businesses who helped out with prizes and sponsorship.
“The Family Centre provides a range of services for children, young people and families that build and enhance relationships and parenting skills. Funds raised support our innovative relationship skills programs in local primary schools.”
Thousands of dollars worth of prizes were awarded on the day including a major prize draw of a family getaway package to the Jacaranda Cottages at Melany won by the “SuperBrooks” Team, Fiona Brooks and family from Tweed Heads South.
The “Super Coopers” won the Best Dressed Super Team.
“This was a very difficult decision for the judges as all teams put in a huge effort dressing up,” David said.
“There were fantastic costumes, from the more traditional superheroes to very clever superhero creations.”
Other prize winners included Super Mum Michelle from “ Team Squish”, Super Dad Daniel from Team Thor, and The Super Team that Best Worked Together – the “Super B’s Rock”.
“We are looking forward to next year already, and planning more challenges, extra activities and lots of fun – see you same place, same bat station!” David said.
