THEY are one of the most famous sports teams in the world and they are coming our way as part of a 12-city tour of Australia.
The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) will host the legendary Harlem Globetrotters when they head to Australia in October.
Long before Kobe Bryant, before Shaquille O’Neill and even before Michael Jordon, there were the Harlem Globetrotters – one the most famous sports teams in history. They return to Australia for the first time in nine years.
The Harlem Globetrotters are an exhibition basketball team that combines athleticism, theatre and comedy and have been part of the basketball scene since 1929.
Over the years they have played more than 20,000 exhibition games in 122 countries on six continents, with Brother Bone’s whistled version of “Sweet Georgia Brown” as the team’s signature song.
The Globetrotters are a team which puts on a display of basketball for fans and newcomers to the sport alike, showcasing everything from game-time scoring to tricks involving the audience.
This time around the Harlem Globetrotters will have a group of 25 people who will be travelling including teams of players, staff and officials.
“The Harlem Globetrotters are incredibly skilled athletes and entertainers who put on a fantastic family show,” David Samuel from On The Road Events said.
The Harlem Globetrotters will play at the GCCEC on Thursday 24 October. Tickets go on sale this week through Ticketek and can be purchased from GCCEC’s on-site box office.
