Tweed Tennis By PETER LUC
THE Saturday junior winter competition grand finals were recently completed at the Tweed Heads Tennis Club.
In the five divisions, teams from Tweed, Kirra, Kingscliff and Murwillumbah made it through to the grand finals.
Our young up and coming juniors played some wonderful tennis confirmed by the closeness in many of the grand finals.
Three of the five grand finals were tied at three sets all and came down to games to determine the winners.
Murwillumbah dominated the grand finals winning four of the five divisions.
Thanks to the clubs, coaches, committees and parents for everything you’ve done throughout the winter comp.
Congratulations to the grand final winners and well done to all juniors who competed.
Division 1: Murwillumbah Mobsters 3/39; runner-up, Tweed Groundstrokes 3/28.
Division 2: Murwillumbah Meteors 4/38; runner-up, Up Kirra Ninjas 2/32.
Division 3: Murwillumbah Mafia 3/39; runner-up, Murwillumbah Mojo 3/34.
Division 4: Tweed Heads Winners 5/42; runner-up, Kingscliff Krushers 1/21.
Division 5: Murwillumbah Marvels 3/28; runner-up, Murwillumbah Magic 3/27.
Including Pottsville and Banora, who made it to the Friday night junior pennants competition, we had six of seven clubs represented in grand finals. A great achievement and shows the depth across all clubs.
With junior tennis numbers increasing, we’ve included a division six in the upcoming junior summer comp and team entries are the highest we’ve seen in recent years, which sets the scene for a fantastic summer competition and shows the kids are loving their tennis.
