Piper wins auspicious scholarship

Pappinbarra local piper, Heather McKenzie has been successful in her application for an Australian Pipe Band Association Scholarship to attend the Canberra School of Piping and Drumming in October.
With only one position on offer, Heather has been selected for her recent performances in solo playing and band work, having achieved a first place in three of her last solo entries with the last being the prestigious Queensland Championships at Ipswich in June.
A team of first class international tutors have made themselves available for the workshop which is making it very popular and a much sought after event from Heather’s peers.
Heather started her piping career at the age of 14 under the tuition of the late Ian McMaster of Port Macquarie, Pipe Major of the Hastings District Pipe Band, of which Heather is a playing member. The benefits gained from this award will see her playing ability raised to new levels.
Details of upcoming recitals from Heather and the band can be had from President  Ross Scott on 6585 1385.
New members and learners are always welcome in the band and supportive tuition is given from Lead Piper Geoff Kinchin and Drum Sergeant Mark Spence.
