From captivating theatre productions by Bell Shakespeare, exhilarating performances by Bangarra Dance Theatre and a production that has “as much bounce a bag full of baby bunnies” Port Macquarie’s Glasshouse has turned out a massive Season 2012 for the community.
The multi-award winning centre launched its Glasshouse Season 2012 on Wednesday night to great acclaim with a program featuring a plethora of dance, drama, comedy, family fun and musical performances.
The Season, which opens in February 2012 with famed classical pianist Simon Tedeschi and virtuoso jazz violinist Ian Cooper and followed later in the month by the sublime singer Katie Noonan, offers a jam-packed program of 17 shows – more than double the offering from previous years.
Belinda Gibson, Program Manager – Performing Arts, Glasshouse, said she was thrilled to help the Glasshouse deliver a diverse program featuring internationally acclaimed performers to be enjoyed by audiences from all walks of life.
“Due to the success of our season in 2011, we have been working even harder to bring audiences an increased number and range of quality performances that will allow everyone to visit the Glasshouse and have their own adventure in our theatre,” Ms Gibson said.
“We are saying to people ‘let your journey begin…’ What we mean by that is we want people to choose their own adventure, experience new things, and enjoy our lower ticket prices, so bring your friends and family. It’s cheaper and easier for everyone to come, and come more often, to the Glasshouse now.
“From kids, families and adults, through to theatre lovers and new audiences, the range of shows we’ve secured in 2012 really does have something for everyone. The Glasshouse was built for the entire community and I think we have delivered a program that has something for every budget and every taste.
“The response so far has been very encouraging,” said Ms Gibson.
“People have really warmed to the variety of shows and ticket prices and can’t wait to get their booking forms in.”
Australia’s internationally acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre will perform for the first time ever in Port Macquarie, presenting ‘of earth & sky’, two works inspired by old and new customs in a theatrical fusion of dance and visual art.
Highly renowned dance production, ‘The Land of Yes & The Land of No’ presented by Sydney Dance Company will be another hit for dance enthusiasts. Captivating audiences for one night only, this production has enthralled a vast array of Australian and international audiences and this is the first time the company has performed to audiences at Glasshouse.
“In 2011 the Glasshouse presented the Australian Ballet Dance Company’s production of Don Quixote. The tickets to those shows sold out in just two days,” said Ms Gibson.
“With just one Sydney Dance Company show, I cannot encourage people strongly enough to subscribe now to secure their seats to this amazing performance. There is a very real chance you will miss out.”
Glasshouse Season 2012 subscribers will also receive ongoing benefits in 2012, with access to other Glasshouse shows that fall outside the traditional season and also The Open House Project shows that will be presented in conjunction with Sydney Opera House.
The extensive program also includes Opera Australia Oz Opera’s magical new production, Don Giovanni, Mozart’s classic masterpiece, which will seduce audiences as opera’s greatest Casanova meets his match.
