Rhythm Revue puts on a show

Rhythm Revue is a group of volunteers who give up their own time to entertain the elderly people in the Hastings area on a weekly basis.
The aim of Rhythm Revue is to continue to expand our work in the area providing music, dancing and entertainment to the elderly, helping to break down the barriers of isolation, to stimulate minds, assist with reminiscing and social well-being to encourage participation.
Rhythm Revue provide age appropriate entertainment to seniors who are not able to readily access it themselves. They also provide a connection and interaction with seniors who are not able to communicate readily, through the medium of song and dance, touch and colour and demonstrate the contribution of seniors as active healthy volunteers in our community.
They entertain in many facilities, Nursing homes, Retirement Villages and Respite Centres; and perform at Charity Concerts, Fund Raising Events, Birthdays etc – on the average of once a week.
Rhythm Revue is a not for profit organisation. Each year during Seniors Week (March,) the group take their two-hour show on the road.
Over the years they have visited no less than 75 towns, entertaining young and old alike, sometimes doing two shows a day to cover the many towns visited. Towns as far South as Richmond, on the way stopping off at Dungog, Gloucester, Tea Gardens and Newcastle; West to Forbes, Orange, Dubbo; North to Tenterfield, Bangalow, Casino, Kyogle and Lismore.
Closer to home, Coffs Harbour, Taree, Kempsey and Port Macquarie and many other smaller towns in-between, always playing to a full house each time, with requests to come back.
The group is well known for their spectacular costumes and professional standards. At the conclusion of the shows, Rhythm Revue mingle with the audience, allowing them to touch the garments that have been made by the group at their own expense.
The shows that are performed are a celebration of and for seniors, bringing back the musical memories of yesteryear but also spanning the generations, challenging stereotypes and showing diversity and versatility.
The group will be conducting a free Workshop at Port Panthers, Pier One on Wednesday, June 20 from 10am to 12noon.
