THE Roxy at Bingara was rocking last Friday night when four bands, three of which were from Armidale and one from Narrabri battled it out in the inaugural ABC New England North West Exhumed band competition.
Local Al Heeney and his 10-piece rhythm and blues band called the Al Heeney Rhythm and Blues Experience won the event with local rockers Oldscool finishing in runner-up.
The other bands to compete were Armidale band Cheer Up John and the Marlins (Middle Aged Rockers Living in Narrabri + Steve). Al Heeney Rhythm and Blues Experience will go on to compete in the state final.
“We had such a great night in Bingara and we are hoping that we can all perform in Armidale together one day soon,” Brian Moore from Oldscool said.
Interested residents can check out the ABC Exhumed website and later this month have the opportunity to vote for a people’s choice category. In November, highlights from the Exhumed performances will be featured on ABC TV.
Runners-up in the competition Oldscool will be playing this Friday night 9 August at the Armidale Club. So head on down to the club to see what all the fuss is about.
