Port Macquarie-Hastings students and beyond will be able to choose their own creative educational journey in 2012 thanks to the Education @ the Glasshouse 2012 program, to be delivered by the multi-award winning Glasshouse, Port Macquarie.
With bookings commencing for primary and secondary schools next week, the program covers subjects such as visual and performing arts, history and music delivered through a range of workshops, performances and exhibitions.
Since the Glasshouse opened in July 2011, over 13,000 children have participated in educational opportunities provided by the program.
New to the program in 2012 will be an international performance of Boxy George by Teater Refleksion, a Danish performing arts company, made available through the Open House Project, a Sydney Opera House and Glasshouse partnership.
The program also features behind the scenes workshops with some of Australia’s leading performing arts companies including Sydney Dance Company and Oz Opera and is aimed to engage and inspire students. Students will also be the first to experience, for the first time at the Glasshouse, an exclusive, live digital streaming of Bell Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Exhibitions form the National Portrait Gallery and Australian War Memorial will also be an inspiration to students with hands on workshops and interactive guided tours.
Skye Frost, Public Programs & Audience Development Officer at Glasshouse said the Education @ the Glasshouse 2012 program will help build an appreciation of high-quality arts experiences among younger audiences.
“We are thrilled to be offering students new adventures in 2012, some as a result of the Open House Project partnership that brings a range of celebrated productions from the Sydney Opera House to Glasshouse,” Ms Frost said.
“Through the Glasshouse, students in regional areas are able to experience the same high quality experiences that are available in capital cities.
“Glasshouse recognises the importance of delivering arts and cultural programs that compliment the school curriculum and we hope that by providing our local students with exposure to high-calibre productions and artists that we will instil in them a lifelong passion for the arts.”
The Education @ the Glasshouse program is proudly supported by Essential Energy, through the provision of subsidised ticket prices and bus travel.
