Join classical piano maestro Simon Tedeschi and virtuoso jazz violinist Ian Cooper as they mix the best of their worlds in a very special concert at the Glasshouse this Saturday.
Tedeschi and Cooper will appear as part of their tour throughout regional NSW this month to present a vast and varied program, which will include Classical, Romantic Tango, Baroque, Gypsy and Dixieland Jazz all delivered with their trademark wit and enthusiasm.
“Sparks seem to fly from every note of Ian Cooper’s violin and Simon Tedeschi’s piano, thanks to some very personal black magic in the way both conjure up their sounds…the program as a whole boasts an engaging blend of surprise and familiarity. Highlights of the show include works by Grainger, Debussy, Bach, Grieg, Saint Saëns, Fats Waller, Stephane Grappelli & Django Reinhardt.
Simon Tedeschi is often described by critics and musical peers as one of the finest artists of his generation. Renowned for championing diverse repertoire, Tedeschi enjoys a full international performing career throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Central America and Australia. Simon first performed at the Sydney Opera House at age nine, and later went on the win the Symphony Australia “Young Performer of the Year Award’. He has performed for George W Bush, Vladimir Putin, Hu Jin Tao, the Dalai Lama and Luciano Pavarotti and has worked with instrumentalists as varied as Roger Woodward, James Morrison and Larry Adler.
Ian Cooper is one of Australia’s most exciting violinists. Ian started learning the violin at age four. His live television debut was at five where he performed “The Three Grenadiers” by Schumann on Channel 7 Australia, and he began competing in Eisteddfods soon after. Ian began his world travels at age six and wowed audiences as a child star in the USA. and Canada. Equally at home playing classical or jazz Ian has toured Europe and USA extensively and has played with musicians such as James Morrison, John Farnham, Tommy Emmanuel, George Benson, Andrea Bocelli, David Helfgott, Neil Sedaka, Max Bygraves, Barry White, Deni Hines, Marcia Hines, Wendy Matthews, The Angels, Melinda Schneider and Olivia Newton-John.
Renowned musicians individually Tedeschi and Cooper have also received rave reviews as a duo presenting this not to be missed concert.
Masterclasses
As part of their visit to the Glasshouse Simon Tedeschi and Ian Cooper will hold a masterclass to demonstrate the principles and techniques that lie beneath their seemingly effortless performances. Simon demonstrates principles of piano tone, touch and technique. Ian looks at jazz improvisation as a spontaneous combination of composition and performance. Together they show the similarities and differences between classical and jazz; the contrasting ways of understanding rhythm; how to perform under pressure; and most importantly, how to have fun on stage!
Class cost is $25 per student.
